Educator Program

Join us for a GSP education session! The GSP Educator Program will reignite your passion for learning, enhance your leadership skills and entrepreneurial mindset, and reconnect you with the wonder that is our profession. Time at ALA is a formative professional development experience through which you will hone your craft and develop your global network.

** Limited scholarships are now available for amazing educators from African countries who are passionate drivers of leadership programs in their own schools or NGO's.

The GSP Experience

Educators join other teachers, school administrators and camp counselors from around the world -- as well as ALA alumni from across Africa -- for an enriching team experience. Starting with a five-day orientation and training, educators are immersed in life at ALA and the GSP program for their 10- or 18-day session, with scheduled time off throughout. You will accompany students on excursions (e.g., outdoor team-building, Soweto walking tour, Apartheid Museum, service learning projects, wildlife drives, and cultural events), act as an advisor to your “family”, and lead fun on-campus activities. The leadership and BUILD design-thinking curriculum is team taught by professional educators and ALA alumni. “Classes” are highly experiential and held across the ALA campus both indoors and outdoors.

Chaperones & School Groups

Teachers accompanying a group of students may participate in GSP as a chaperone. Chaperones are not required to apply to the Educator Program, do not participate in the pre-session educator training and orientation, and are not eligible for BUILD educator certification. They are provided on-campus accommodations and meals and are welcome to participate in all GSP programming, assist with teaching, and join excursions. Chaperones may also use their time on the ALA campus to study or engage in professional work.
