Professional Development opportunities for educators from all over the world
Join us for a session during our GSP season. The GSP Educator Program is an opportunity to reignite your passion for learning, explore new cultures, re-think existing assumptions, and re-connect with the innovative wonder that is our profession. Time at African Leadership Academy is a formative professional development experience. We hope you will to join us.
** Limited scholarships are now available for amazing educators from African countries who are passionate drivers of leadership programs in their own schools or NGO’s.
Teachers accompanying their group of students either participate as a chaperone or a GSP educator. Chaperones participate at his/her own will: “I appreciate the freedom of being a chaperone. I had the freedom of not only attending classes with the students but also had free time to work on my lectures.” – Alec Milton
Educators go through formal professional development process and co-teach in the GSP classrooms to immerse in the ALA model: “Throughout the program, I constantly rethink my teaching style and leadership style. ALA has a unique student-centred approach and teaching model. GSP was great professional development for me.”
One of the most exciting elements of the seasoned educator’s experience is renewing the passion for learning. You will learn new cultures, re-think existing assumptions, and re-connect with the innovative wonder that is the profession of teaching.
Who is this for?
Both experienced and new teachers are encouraged to apply, and successful staff members typically have a good mix of the following:
- We welcome educators from across the world.
- A flexible and agile problem solver
- Comfortable with a socratic style, where raising questions is more important than giving answers
- Energized by different cultures, languages, and learning styles
- Committed to their own personal journey and growth
You or your institution will need to provide limited support for your time with the African Leadership Academy as part of your professional development. You will need to fund your own travel arrangements to South Africa, travel/health insurance and visa costs if required. The Academy will provide accommodation and meals to the educators who are finally selected to join us. Details will be provided once you apply.
Scholarships: We do have limited scholarships available, exclusively for African educators or leadership program facilitators. An application and selection process will be followed, which will include assignments and interviews. These scholarships will be given to those who have already begun to implement leadership or project-based learning programs, and are committed to taking what they learn at ALA back to their schools or NGO’s in their home countries.
