For Educators

The GSP Educator Program offers professional development opportunities for outstanding educators from all over the world.

Apply individually or come as part of a school group and get ready to immerse yourself in our one-of-a-kind Global Scholars Program curriculum and teaching model.

This program is an opportunity to reignite your passion for learning, explore new cultures, re-think existing assumptions, and re-connect with the innovative wonder that is the teaching profession. Educators go through a formal professional development process on our Johannesburg campus before joining veteran faculty and staff from ALA to co-teach  in the GSP classrooms. At the end of GSP, all facilitators will receive a certificate of completion acknowledging that they have completed training in our entrepreneurial leadership and design thinking curriculum.

We welcome educators from around the globe - both experienced and new teachers are encouraged to apply.

Traveling with a school group

Teachers accompanying their group of students either participate as a chaperones or GSP Educators. Please note that we require educators to arrive on campus approximately a week before the program start date for in-person training, – this includes teachers traveling with a school group, so we suggest that groups bring an additional chaperone if they have a team member who will be participating in the Educator Program.

Educator Program costs

You or your institution will need to provide limited support for your time with African Leadership Academy as part of your professional development. You will need to fund your own travel arrangements to South Africa, travel/health insurance and visa costs if required. The Academy will provide accommodation and meals to the educators who are finally selected to join us. Details will be provided once you apply.

We do have limited scholarships available, exclusively for African educators or leadership program facilitators. An application and selection process will be followed, which will include assignments and interviews. These scholarships will be granted to those who have already begun to implement leadership or project-based learning programs, and are committed to taking what they learn at ALA back to their schools or NGO’s in their home countries.
